Breastfeeding Woes

So from the previous post on sore right, much had happened.

I offered too much of my left side, left side turn sore too. Before that happened, I called for a lactation consultant to do a home visit on Thursday afternoon. The LC came and taught me a lot of things. Such as helping Rachael to massage her jaws and getting her to exercise her tongue sticking out so that it's easier for sucking. She also taught us that to make her burb, we should keep her body straight before patting her. While it seemed really easy for the LC, we still have difficulty getting Rachael to burb.

Anyway, my right side was in a bad shape, right? Wrong! The LC said my right side was ok. I have quite a few milk duct that could squirt milk. Instead, my left side was in a badly engorgement state. She massaged my breast super hard that I almost screamed and cried. And now, I have bruises on my breast.

So well, she cleared my engorgement and told me to take care of my breasts. Who knows, on Friday, my nipples were so painful to touch that I decided to rest from latching on for a day.

End result, my right side becomes badly engorged this morning! It seemed like a never ending journey of engorgement, pain and frustration. I tried my best to massage as hard as I could and pump in the morning but to no avail. Last resort was to seek Rachael's help to suck the milk out. She did! Although my right nipple was still very painful, at least she helped me cleared the lumps. Thank God!

As I'm writing, she's nursing and I'm in pain. I really feel like giving up. It's really too painful to bear. She's biting and sucking really hard. I have difficulty getting her to unlatch. I can only pray that as she grows older, it becomes easier and less painful.
